DT Training and Conferences

We have a range of training and conferences coming up this academic year.  Emails with the full details for each event have been sent out to all designated teachers and schools.  Please note that booking is essential for all training dates.

Monday 20th November 2017 - Implications of the New Statutory Guidance for Designated Teachers Workshop

Following an alert to the new guidance a number of colleagues have indicated that they would like to take part in a discussion to more fully understand the implications of the new requirements.  Therefore, Sharon will be running a workshop to look at the changes to the role of Designated Teacher for children in Care AND the new requirements for a named person in schools for Previously Looked After Children.

Monday 4th December 2017 - Boxall Profile Refresher Workshop

As agreed last year, it is now a requirement for a Boxall Profile to be completed on a termly basis for every child in care to Halton along with their PEP.  It has been a while since we ran the initial Boxall Profile training therefore we are running a workshop for any Designated Teacher who would like to have a refresher on how to use the Boxall Profile.  The session will focus on how to make the best use of the information provided through the profile and how to track the impact that the strategies have had.  For those attending the training please bring along a completed Boxall Profile so this can be used as part of the workshop.

If you are one of the few who are unfortunately having problems logging on to the system we will hopefully be able to resolve this at the workshop.

Monday 5th March 2018 or Wednesday 7th March - Regional Training Event

The 23 North West Virtual Schools are arranging a regional training event, that will be run twice at two separate venues.  The training will cover the new statutory guidance and will have speakers from Adoption UK, the DfE, our regional Ofsted inspector Andrew Cook and also his counterpoint from social care.  There will also be a PP++ award winning school speaking about their approach to using PP+.  As well as listening to the speakers there will be an opportunity to ask questions and speak with colleagues both in and out of the authority working with children in care.

We have been given a limited number of places on this event therefore will take bookings on a first come first served basis and only one booking per school.  There will be a reserve list if all the places are booked up.  The deadline for applications is Friday 24th November.

If schools and DTs have any specific training that they'd like us to put in place, please contact us on virtual.school@halton.gov.uk .
