Activity Ideas: Literacy

This page includes a range of online games, resources and activities which will support and develop key literacy skills for children and young people of all ages. Many activities focus upon spelling, punctuation and grammar development. 

 

Literacy Shed - Free Literacy resources for KS1 and KS2 children, with many activities based upon short films or animations, stories, poems or books. The site also includes reading comprehensions on lots of interesting themes.

Puffin Schools - One for book lovers! Downloadable resource packs based upon popular children’s books including the BFG, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Little Woman. The site also includes creative writing resources, competitions and activity suggestions. Suitable for KS1-KS3.

Centre for Literacy in Primary Education - This site includes many free literacy resources for schools, but these can also be easily adapted for home learning. Lots of fun activities based upon your favourite books. Suitable for primary aged children and KS3.

David Walliams - Visit this website for lots of free activities. Also tune it at 11am each day for approximately 20 minutes to listen to one of David Walliams’ World’s Worst Children stories.

Harry Potter at Home - For any Harry Potter fans (or soon to be fans!) The Wizarding World website has now introduced a new ‘Harry Potter at Home’ section with lots of fun activities, videos, quizzes and much more to keep you occupied.

Julia Donaldson - The author of The Gruffalo, and other well-loved characters, has again worked with the illustrator Axel Scheffler to introduce some wonderful illustrations which help to explain to children the rules around social distancing and why they should follow those rules.
